Nigerian leaders lack the creativity to tackle unemployment” – Gov. Fashola points fingers

by Akan Ido
Governor Babatunde Fashola yesterday blamed the nation’s unemployment woes on the lack of creativity on the part of its leaders.
He said this at the graduation of the first set of health volunteers, under the state Health Volunteers’ Scheme at Alausa, Ikeja.
Fashola said the curriculum used in teaching in the nation’s higher institutions is not in sync with the present needs of the economy.
According to reports, he said, “This nation has no business with unemployment if we think, if we are creative and if we are innovative.
“The curriculum in our schools needs to be reviewed. There is a mismatch between realities of our society and our tertiary institutions. We are producing graduates in courses we no longer need.”
He called for an urgent review of the school curriculum so as to fashion it in such a manner that it can readily meet the needs of the economy and also promote graduate employment.
He urged the health volunteers to work within the codes of conduct and encourage those willing to be health practitioners saying, “This may inspire in you a will to move on to become health practitioners; we are already building a pathway to help you in that.”
Anyone in agreement with the governor?
