Hello Nigeria. Welcome to the Spirit of Egunje.

Egunje has many meanings and can be defined in many ways by many of us. To some, it connotes bribery and corruption, to others, it means defiance and losses because for these ones, the cost of giving egunje has been more than costly. The stories have to be told, the poems have to be written, the songs have to be heard and the tweets have to be shared. The Spirit of Egunje is here to demystify a menace that has since become the norm rather than the exception. We have now decided to bring these issues to the fore.
We will reward the best stories, the best poems, the best songs and the most involved members of the Twitterati as we highlight the Spirit of Egunje and look to chase it off our land for good. If we can’t chase it in its entirety, we can at least unravel its mystery and make it run into hiding. You should participate in this. The least you can do is tweet about it. The hashtag is #EgunjeInfo and the Twitter handle to follow is @PINS2015.
The Best Egunje Story:
We are looking at originality, creativity and uniqueness. This must not be above 600 words. The stories will be collated and published as we have have them go amongst the first posts on the new Egunje site. The top 3 finishers will get gift rewards and invitations to the launch of the portal in Abuja. The winner will speak to the press.
The best Egunje Poem:
Here, we are looking at a poem that expresses the issue in the most talented way possible. This will prepare a fruitful ground for everyone for when we finally do our “Call to Action” because by this time, many would have seen egunje beyond extorted money and its usual faces and can indeed relate it to dead mothers, dead children and the other realities of poverty in our society. The top 3 finishers will get gift rewards and invitations to the launch of the portal in Abuja. The winner will speak to the press.
The recorded songs:
The song that best captures the spirit and realities of Egunje. We have celebrity award winning musicians as judges so we trust that our best song will indeed be the best of the lot. The process of participation will be announced soon. The top 3 finishers will get gift rewards and invitations to the launch of the portal. The winner will speak to the press.
The most active participant with respect to the hashtag on Twitter (based on hashtracking):
The top participants will be collated after each session and we add up the points at the end of the campaign. We will give out books to the top 5 while the number one participant will be better rewarded. No member of staff of Public Integrity and Omojuwa.com or their associates are allowed to win this. The top 3 finishers will get gift rewards and invitations to the launch of the portal. The winner will speak to the press.
Numbers in terms of the real cost of Egunje:
We will not engage the same cliché way egunje or corruption has been discussed in Nigeria. We are going a step further to reveal the alternative forgone of this menace on our society. The ball is in your court, share your stories, tell us your experiences. #EgubjeInfo
Television Appearances (and Newspapers + Radio):
The menace of (egunje) corruption in Nigeria has been well and truly beaten on all available media platforms. To start a campaign on a perspective of this menace, something new must be added to the narratives. That is the essence of taking time out to present the cost of egunje in terms of hospitals we don’t have, roads we could have, lives we could have saved and the general standard of living we could have ensured we improved for our people. The onus is on us to see beyond the act and appreciate the cost of Egunje on our nation. That is the difference our campaign would carry beyond the already expected cliché that gets to go with stories around Egunje or corruption in Nigeria.
