Sani Mohammed, a top Boko Haram commander arrested along with Kabir Sokoto in January this year has escaped from police custody.
Reports say Mohammed, who was said to have been kept with other terror suspects, curiously slipped away from the police cell in Abuja on Thursday.
Though there have been denials emanating from the police force headquarters over news of the reported escape, security sources maintain that Mohammed absconded from custody.
Deputy force public relations officer, Frank Mba, said no terror suspect escaped from its custody, adding that a check of its records showed no such name as Sani Mohammed on its list of detainees.
He said, “The police authority hereby informs the public that the information being circulated by TV Station is totally untrue and should be disregarded in its entirety.”
This is not the first time a terror suspect will be escaping from police custody, Kabir Sokoto, the alleged mastermind of the Saint Theresa Catholic Church, Madalla bombing, escaped from the police at Abaji, a satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory.
