‘Nail On The Head’ With Segun Dada: President Jonathan’s Score-Card

President Jonathan’s Score-Card

Segun Dada
As President Goodluck Ebele Johnathan approaches the second year of his four year term, it is important to take stock of his stewardship thus far.
The transformation agenda is almost complete in our respective lives. We are tired. Tired of ranting, complaining and cussing. Two years of GEJ’s tenure seems like forever. Hardly does a day pass without a national drama or scandal. Bombs go off daily without hindrance. The bombs came first as a shock to us, but like our father’s second wife, we have come to live with them, like our president once suggested. Terrorists under names like Boko Haram, Ansaru, JTF and the Unknown Gunmen go about the streets shooting and bombing anything that or doesn’t catch their fancy. Lives are lost. Our government condemns and we all move on.
number of us have been tagged “twitter activists” who only hurl insults at the president and his presidency. Let’s take a good look at who does more harm to the Goodluck Jonathan brand…..
1.When asked to publicly declare his assets, the president retorted vehemently: “I don’t give a damn”.
2.Mr President used his presidency to protect Subsidy thieves. The petty ones were arrested, shaken up a bit and never prosecuted while the identity of the sponsors are more protected than nuclear codes of America’s nuclear war-heads.
3. He Sets up investigative committees and as soon as they submit their findings and recommendations, the reports find their way into some large deep freezer at Aso villa, never to be seen again.
4. His administration claims to have uncovered 45,000 Ghost workers but conveniently failed to uncover the ones who collect N100bn in annual ghost-salaries.
5. Without due process of any sorts, coastline and pipelines protection contracts were awarded to ex-militant warlords who belong to the president’s inner circle.
6. The President used armed troops to disperse unarmed protesters of the #OccupyNigeria movement.
7. He has rewarded renowned thieves and treasury looters with choice and juicy board appointments.
8. N2.1billion naira went missing from the Nigerian minting andprinting press. No sacks, no queries, no heads rolled
9. Used the powers of his office to prevent the prosecution of Abdulrasheed Maina who was accused of stealing N27billion of Pension funds.
10. Rendered the EFCC and ICPC useless and redundant–like barking dogs on a tight leash without canines to bite.
11. Turned the presidency into an automated condolence machine.
12. Almost three years later, with a security budget of almost a trillion naira, our nation is still one of the most insecure countries in the world to live in.
13. Our President lies blatantly on national television. He makes vows after vows, sings promises upon promises but with no commensurate action to show.
14. He pardons notorious bandits convicted for skimming the treasury then vows that the war on corruption is almost won.
15. Rejects transparency clause in 2013 budget and asks National Assembly not to monitor budget spendings.
16. Asked to explain the State pardon recently granted one of Nigeria’s past corrupt government official, he told his countrymen who voted him in: “I have no apologies for my actions”. Interpretation: “You all can jump into the Lagos Lagoon for all I care”.
Where do we go from here? If we have experienced all this in less than two years into a four year tenure, I hope Nigeria exists in 2015. And oh…… He wants to remain in office till 2019. Now let’s ponder on that for a minute.
